Freaks Hall Class of 2021 Election: Oldies and Side Performer Ballots

The Rock 'n' Roll Freaks Hall Class of 2021 election is officially up and running!

The selection of our class of 2021 is done in two parts. In the first part, which begins tonight, we select our Oldies and Side Performer inductees. Each ballot contains eight names. Choose up to three and post your selection in the pinned post of the Thee Loyal Order of Rock 'n' Roll Freaks group page on Facebook.

It is a private group, so if you are not a member, just go there and request membership. Once you've been added in, you can cast your vote.

About the Freaks Hall: The Rock ‘n’ Roll Freaks Hall honors artists, groups and contributors who have not been recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Commercial success and/or critical acclaim are not factors in choosing candidates or inductees. Rather, we seek to spotlight those people who embody the true spirit of rock ‘n’ roll in their recordings, performances, and in the lives they’ve lived. In fact, we often strive to recognize those who are not likely to ever be invited to one of the establishment’s made for TV galas – the forgotten heroes, the renegades, and the free spirits who have left a unique imprint on the history of rock ‘n’ roll.

For Class of 2021 eligibility, Oldies Ballot nominees must have made their recording debut in 1955 or earlier. For the Sidemen Ballot, the nominees must have made their recording debut no later than 1985.

Polls close Friday, October 9 at 8:00 PM EST. The #1 vote getter in each category will join our class of 2021, if there is a tie, both artists or groups will be inducted.

Freaks Hall Class of 2021 Inductees Announced

The polls are closed, the ballots have been counted, and we are proud to announce three new members of the Rock 'n' Roll Freaks Hall class of 2021. To be eligible for this year's election, an artist or group had to have made their recording debut no later than 1985 and not already be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There were 15 nominees and the top three vote getters join our Oldies and Side Performer ballot inductees (Charlie Feathers and Carol Kaye) as the class of 2021, giving us a full class of five for this year. By the time I pulled the plug on the Freaks Hall I thought we'd jumped the shark and let in too many while other obvious names were left by the wayside. Instead of fixing it, I just ended it. But, I have always been pretty damn proud of our very first, original class of inductees. It was 2014 and we voted on groups and artists who weren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (TM) at the time. We ended up with an inaugural class of 16 that has remained unmatched. When you look at the year by year additions, you see a trend downward. We got it just right the first time.
