In our preliminary round of voting, we cast ballots in two categories - Oldies, which included artists and groups who made their recording debut prior to 1956, and Side Performers - men and women who contributed as session musicians and/or as members of bands that backed some of rock 'n' roll's biggest stars and innovators. Charlie Feathers
June 12, 1932 – August 29, 1998. Pioneering rockabilly performer who recorded for labels like Flip, Sun, Meteor, and King. His songs have been covered by a wide range of artists spanning decades, including Elvis Presely (who had a #1 country hit with Feathers' "I Forgot To Remember To Forget"), Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Beatles, Bob Dylan & the Band, Robert Gordon, The Stray Cats, and 2014 Freaks Hall inductees the Cramps.
Carol Kaye
Born born March 24, 1935 in Everett, WA. One of the most prolifically recorded bass guitarists in rock and pop music history, it is estimated that Kaye played 10,000 recordings in a career spanning over 50 years. She has worked for legendary producers such as Phil Spector, Brian Wilson, and Quincy Jones and played on records by the Beach Boys, Sonny & Cher, Nancy Sinatra, Ike & Tina Turner, The Righteous Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel, Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention, and many others.
